FAMILY AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR ADULTS

While in Early Head Start adult family members have opportunities to talk with their Family Consultant about individual and family strengths and needs and then set goals and develop a plan to meet those goals. Examples of goals might be to pursue additional education, find a home, get a job or learn to communicate better with one's spouse and children. Little steps can provide many benefits and working on goals while in EHS is a great time to start.

From time to time the program offers parent support groups or educational classes on topics such as parenting, CPR/First Aid, cooking, literacy, money management, smoking cessation or infant massage, to name a few. As classes are planned, parents have opportunities to provide ideas for classes that may be of interest to them.

Developing friendships and social networks is important and EHS offers opportunities to meet other families with young children. The program holds activities such as picnics, literacy nights, and festivals that provide chances for adults and children to get acquainted with others in their neighborhood. These friendships may continue as children participate in Head Start and go through the public schools.
